About
Amy Hellman is a parent to three children and grandmother to two grand-daughters. She hopes to share her experience with others and to work for mental health advocacy efforts in Northwestern Minnesota. She currently resides in Polk County, Minnesota and is working to start a “parent resource center”, EPIC Family Resource Center, for parents and families who have a loved one with mental illness.
Caretaker burnout, family crisis, family problems, and fear of the system of care itself are often part of the package when caring for a child or loved one with mental illness. We can change this in our communities by offering more services to parents who need them.
Educating, encouraging, and supporting families is a huge need that is just not being fulfilled right now. There are many great and wonderful national advocacy groups that are doing a lot for mental illness at the level of government, watching funding bills, and other laws that affect this community. There are groups that offer great information and training sessions for parents.
The EPIC Family Resource Center will take all of the services, advocacy, training, and service providers and have it all in one place. Support. Training. Education. Advocacy. It will be a non-judgmental place for everyone to meet, gather, care, and work together!

Hi Amy,
Are you familiar with STARS for Mental Health? It’s a central MN organization, I was just on their website yesterday, and it sounds like the type of thing that might interest you (based on your “About” information. Here’s their site: http://www.starsnetwork.org/about.html
I don’t work for them – I work for the Child & Adolescent Bipolar Foundation – just dropping in, saw a link to your blog on the Twisted Stitches blog, thought I’d leave a comment, say hello!
Yes I know they exist but they do not serve my community/county. Thanks for the information. It’s greatly appreciated.
